BackStory with Michael Holmes

(CNN) -- Hello everyone and welcome to BackStory -- a new and exciting type of program for CNN International, and a new path for me personally.

We hope you will be involved heavily in our program, in terms of content and in terms of feedback. We'll blog, we'll Twitter but we want your input too.

The idea, as you'll see elsewhere on this site, is to bring you a perspective of the news, and the news business, that you don't see elsewhere. Added value if you like.

We'll be giving more airtime to those who witness news events, showing you how we do things, give you context to news of the day and take you behind the headlines. Watch more about the program »

After more than 12 years here at CNNi, it's a terrific new challenge for me and a lifestyle change as well! For a start, it will be the first time in years, I do not have to get up at 5am to anchor the news, nor am I spending a good chunk of my year in Baghdad or elsewhere! My kids are particularly grateful for the latter change.

BackStory is my focus now and it's an exciting period.

I'll blog here hopefully daily, and hope you'll weigh in, positive or negative.

I'm also planning to rope our BackStory staff into contributing - including Steve Tuemmler (our fearless Supervising Producer), Vickie Russell (our dynamo Senior Producer) and our writers and segment producers as well.

So, as we say on the show, let's get it started.
