Liddy Declines Invitation To Debate Hillary

TOLEDO, Ohio (AllPolitics, June 13) -- Elizabeth Dole has declined an invitation from the University of Toledo to debate Hillary Clinton on the role of the first lady in American politics.

"I appreciate the invitation," Mrs. Dole said. "But I think I'm going to leave the debates to the candidates."

Though it's seemingly moot, Mrs. Clinton apparently is still mulling the idea. "No formal decision has been made," Clinton campaign spokesman Joe Lockhart told the Associated Press. "But our feeling is that voters want to hear from the people running for president and for vice president."
