Voter's Voice

Here are more comments from AllPolitics readers on the Dole resignation and other issues. We'd like to hear from you, too. You can reach us via e-mail at editors@AllPolitics.com

"A Great President"

Mr. Dole is a wonderful person and will make a GREAT PRESIDENT. I, for the life of me, can't figure out how we the greatest nation in the world could have ever elected a person like Clinton. He's just a pretty face. The words that come out of his mouth are so dishonest. I'm sure that the voters will be able to see that this time around. Plus I'm hoping that no Catholic that belongs to the church will vote for him.

-- Kathleen E. Griffin, Merritt Island, Fla.

"A Step Further"

Let's take Dole's idea (about drug testing of welfare recipients) and go a step further with it...Is there any reason welfare recipients should be tested, but not lawmakers? After all, they are living on government-provided money!

-- Paul Martin, Naples, Fla.

"A Very Courageous Thing"

...Dole did a very courageous and honorable thing by resigning from the Senate. Now he can take Clinton on one on one. Lie by lie. He will be able to point out all of the lies that Clinton tells and rebut them. He will be able to show the American voter all of the flip- flops Clinton has done in his time in office. If Democratic ideas are so wonderful, why has Clinton stolen all of the Republican ideas for his campaign?

Clinton knows how the American people feel. They agree with the Republican ideals. So he is trying to make himself sound like a Republican to get re-elected and then he will go back to his tax and spend policies he outlined in his State of the Union Address.

If Republican philosophy is so far off of the mark, why are the Democrats copying the Republican "Contract With America" with their eight points or whatever they call it?

Wise up, America. The only party that can lead us into the 20th century with any money left in our pockets is the Republican Party. The Democrats are a socialist party with socialist ideals. Nothing more, nothing less. Take from the people who go out and make the money and give it to the slobs who lay around home all day watching TV and collecting welfare.

-- Susan L. Mays, Waitsburg, Wash.

"Basically A Conservative Country"

Isn't it funny that two years ago the Democrats were making fun of the Republicans "Contract with America." In another attempt by the Democrats to regain control of Congress, they have stolen another Republican idea.

The Democrats feel that they will not make the same mistakes that they have made over the last 40 years. I guess their two years without control of Congress has taught them what they could not understand with 40 years of control.

These are the same people that three years ago would not think of allowing a "middle class tax cut." These are the same people that tried to turn the U.S. health care system into a goverment controlled industry. These are the same people that when they had the opportunity to pass the minimum wage without any trouble did nothing. In fact, many felt that a minimum wage increase was not the answer at that time. I wonder what has changed their minds since then?

Dick Gephardt say that this agenda will "improve the lives of average Americans, in their homes, in their schools, in their families." It is so obvious that these people still do not understand what people want. Sure, Americans want all of the things that Dick Gephardt mentions, only the solutions cannot be provided through Washington D.C. The solutions to these problems can be found where the problems are found, "in their homes, in their schools, in their families." What representaive Gephardt needs to understand is that all "We the people of the United States" really want is for government to follow as we lead this country into the future!

The Democrats seem to understand that America is basically a conservative country, as seen by their move towards the right every election year, yet they persist in trying to move America towards the left. I hope that Americans will not be fooled by the Democrats again. I am sure Dick Gephardt has heard the expression, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me." Represenative Gephardt, the American people will not be fooled again!

-- Joe Schuebert, Gainesville, GA.

"More Character"

This (previous Voter's Voice) looked more like a representative sample of liberals having a heart attack.

You can tell the panic in the responses. Just look at all of the personal attacks on Bob Dole. It never fails, a liberal just cannot comment about a "conservative," without resorting to a personal attack.

For now, Bob Dole's supposed handicap is his age. I just cannot wait for a liberal to comment on his obvious handicap! Or is that too sensitive an issue ? What has age got to do with anything? It's only an issue when it's a conservative. The issue is character. Liberals know this and that is why they are so terrified.

I hope that I am half the man that Bob Dole is, when I reach his age. This man has more character than any that may wish to challenge him.

-- Dilip Jivan, Mogadore, Ohio
