AllPolitics - Voter's Voice

The Choice On Tuesday

Bill Clinton has offered up some of his ideas about campaign finance reform, but rival Bob Dole ridiculed Clinton's last-minute focus on the issue. What did you think of what they said? If you have comments, or thoughts on the final days of the 1996 campaign, send us e-mail at editor@AllPolitics.com Put "Voter's Voice" in the subject line and be sure to include your name and hometown.

Here's the latest batch of reader e-mail:

"Beaten Them At Their Own Game"

How any Republican can question the ethics and fund raising of Bill Clinton is completely beyond comprehension.

Republicans have taken money from and been influenced by foreign governments, including the Vatican, for decades. The ONLY reason they are mad about it now is because the Democrats have beaten them at their own game.

Dole took money from the Riady family of Indonesia, but now calls Bill Clinton "unethical" for accepting money from that same family. Just last week, the campaign finance manager of the GOP was convicted and fined $1 million, the largest fine ever levied for political fund-raising irregularities, yet Republicans NEVER mention this when they snipe at Bill Clinton.

Those sour grapes must be tasting really bad with only five days to go and Dope/Hemp down by over 15 points in most national scientific polls! Republican lies have not been enough to steal this election from the people. The people have heard Bob Dole, and have rejected him.

Just yesterday, I saw Jack Kevorkian following the Dole campaign bus tour! I guess Bob Dole realizes that it is all over but the shouting! You guys dish it out really well. Your problem is, you cannot take it when it comes back to you. How does that crow taste?

"Aren't You Fed Up"

C'mon, America, aren't you about fed up with all this bantering between Dole and Clinton? This is not an election about the lesser of two evils if you just cast them both out!!! I voted for Reagan, Bush, and then Clinton. I was set to re-elect him until just this week. Now I am voting for Perot, and I'm really excited about it.

Sure, he would not be as problem-solving as he says, because he would have to be able to work with the Congress. He would have to learn compromise, I'm sure, but what a powerful message we could send to Washington by ousting the top two. Even if Perot doesn't win, I think it is very important that we give him the 25 percent that he needs to be included in the debates the next time around. Let's at least give him that much!!

"Another Version Of The Shell Game"

Well, here we are again, doing another version of the SHELL GAME....He (Clinton) gets the people to watch where HE wants you to watch, and not where the real issues are....The PROBLEM IS THAT HE IS NOT OBEYING THE LAWS THAT ARE ON THE BOOKS NOW. What difference does it make if the law is changed?

-- Cheryl Gager, Nov. 1

"Never Missed A Federal Or Local Election"

I'm 32 years old and have never missed a federal or local election. This year I could really see how people become frustrated by the "BS" that's out there.

Special interest groups and other big money organizations have made the democratic process a joke. Come on...someone gives $500,000 to the Republican or Democratic Party and they're only doing it because they believe in good government?

Despite all these distractions and annoyances, YOU have to get out there and vote! Don't sit on your butt and complain. YOU DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!

-- Mark Warchol, Hickory Hills, Ill., Nov. 1

"How Far Down The Tubes"

If Clinton does get re-elected, that is going to tell a lot of Americans just how far down the tubes the morals and ethics of the people have gone. For some reason, they don't care about the questions concerning his character. In that case, we will get what we deserve. We'll just have a great big Oprah/Jenny show for at least the next four years.

Thank you.

"A Wasted Vote"

Voting for the "lesser of two evils" is a WASTED VOTE.

Voting for one candidate to remove another is a WASTED VOTE.

Voting for ANY reason other than because you truly believe in and support the candidate is a wasted vote. If we continue to vote the way the politicians want us to believe our vote will count, we will always waste our votes. To vote for Dole just because he has the best chance to oust Clinton is wrong. We should (and I will) vote for what we believe in. I believe I have had enough blah, blah, blah and bark, bark, bark from the REPUBLICATS. As a successful businessman I know as a fact that what Mr. Perot can (do) for our country will be based on sound, tried and true methods that every successful business has built itself on.

The United States government is the largest business in the world and it is being managed (very, very poorly!) by people who have no experience building successful businesses. Not a clue. Obviously WHITEWATER is NOT a successful business.

We need ROSS PEROT FOR PRESIDENT, the man the politicians call on to get them out of jams and then pin the nation's highest honors on him. The man responsible for two of the nation's most successful businesses (talk about creating jobs!). The man who not only orchestrated the successful rescue of hostages from Iran, he participated in the operation...The man who will almost certainly serve us and our interest, not his own.

So it's up to all of us. Should we vote for more Blah, Blah,Blah, and financial disaster; or will we vote for the man with the intelligent answers and a proven track record of financial success?
