Spending on the Rise
After 10 years of steady global decline, military budgets are growing. The
swing is largely due to increases by China, France, Russia and the U.S.
South Asia is where spending is rising the most in Asia -- India, Pakistan
and Sri Lanka are buying and building more weaponry. Regionally the military's
share of the budget pie has been shrinking, but has recently started to
rise again -- data for 2000 will most likely show an upward swing.
