LOCAL VIBE
(www.localvibe.com)
CITY SLICKER: This recently launched website offers a lively, opinionated and affectionate overview of what's on in Manila. Visitor-friendly features include events listings for movies, sports, live music and family fun. Best of all is the chatty "More Articles" section, where Manilenos share their tips for where to eat, drink and hang out, from how to explore five museums in a day to places to go for cheap books, arty films and hidden restaurants. You can also sign up for e-mail updates on local happenings, read fiction by up-and-coming authors or peruse the online art and photo gallery.

MANILA BY SUNSET
(www.manilabysunset.com)
AFTER HOURS: Not as slickly presented as "Local Vibe" but a good website to explore when planning your time in Manila. You'll find contact information (but no reviews) for hotels, bars, pubs, restaurants, dance clubs and cafés, along with listings of upcoming concerts, exhibitions and other cultural happenings. The "travel and tours" section offers an overview of sightseeing options near--but not in--the city.
