Seeb International Airport

Location: Seeb, northeast Oman, near the emirate's capital, Muscat.

Personnel: About 1,300 U.S. military as of January.

Units: 763rd Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, 4410th Air Refueling Squadron, 189th Airlift Squadron and 320th Air Expeditionary Wing, according to military research group Globalsecurity.org. In September 2002, the Washington Post reported that a fighter jet squadron was also based here.

Aircraft: Force includes C-130 transports and KC-135 refueling tankers.

Role: An abundance of U.S. military materiel and equipment is based in and around Seeb, Oman's largest military base. Several nearby oil tankers are also at U.S. forces' disposal. Oman's historically pro-American government has been wary of supporting a U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.
