Feds: Recent Atlanta bombings the work of different people

ATLANTA (CNN) -- Officials are saying the two bombs that exploded last Thursday near a suburban Atlanta family planning clinic were not similar to the bomb that killed one during the Olympics last year.

That leads investigators to suspect the blasts were not the work of the same bomber, federal sources told CNN Thursday.

The Olympic blast, which killed a woman and injured more than 100 people, was a pipe bomb filled with smokeless gunpowder. It was packed in a military-style backpack and loaded with three-inch nails that caused many of the injuries, investigators said.

The bombs that exploded an hour apart last Thursday were made with sticks of commercial-grade dynamite, more powerful and harder to handle than the smokeless gunpowder, federal sources said. It would be unusual for a bomber to change from smokeless gunpowder in one attack and use dynamite in another, the sources said.
