Judge denies delay in Air Force adultery court-martial
May 17, 1997 WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The military judge assigned to the pending court martial of Air Force Lt. Kelly Flinn has denied a move by the defense for a change of venue and an extension, an Air Force official said. "(The court-martial) is going to go forward," said Brig. Gen. Ron Sconyers, the service branch's public affairs chief. Flinn, the Air Force's first and only female B-52 pilot, has been charged with lying in an official statement, fraternization, failure to obey a lawful order, conduct unbecoming an officer and adultery. Flinn's attorney, Frank Spinner, said that the pilot was considering requesting a resignation in lieu of court-martial. He and Flinn asked for a delay in the start of the court-martial to give her more time to consider resigning and him more time to prepare. Spinner did not disclose why he requested a change of venue from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota to Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. Flinn took a rock-climbing trip over the weekend to consider her next step, Spinner said. The trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning.
